Why does a small video become a large GIF?
Video codecs compress photographic motion more efficiently than GIF. A shorter clip, fewer frames per second, and smaller dimensions can reduce GIF size. These controls trade duration, smoothness, or detail for size.
What happens to audio and long videos?
GIF has no audio. Longer or larger videos first show local preparation controls so you can choose a shorter section and working resolution before loading frames into the editor.
Which format should I choose?
- WebM
- Video with transparency for players and browsers that support it. Enable looping in your player.
- GIF
- Widely compatible and loops automatically; usually larger files.
- MP4
- Widely supported video. Transparent areas become black; looping is a player setting.
- APNG
- Full color with smooth transparency; often a larger file.
