Inspect frames: questions & tips
What does the frame duration mean?
It is the time the current frame stays visible at the selected playback speed. A 100 ms frame lasts one tenth of a second. GIFs can use different durations for different frames.
Does opening a GIF recompress it?
Viewing decodes frames locally; it does not export or overwrite your source. Save current PNG creates a still image of the displayed frame, including any edits you have applied.
Which format should I choose?
- WebM
- Video with transparency for players and browsers that support it. Enable looping in your player.
- GIF
- Widely compatible and loops automatically; usually larger files.
- MP4
- Widely supported video. Transparent areas become black; looping is a player setting.
- APNG
- Full color with smooth transparency; often a larger file.
